A friend of mine started blogging recently (Hi Amy!) and she said I should too. So because of you Amy, I'm going to try this blogging thing out too.
I titled my blog "The Mountain Ahead". The suffering economy has recently affected my husbands job. He workes in the construction industry - well he works for a builder's supply company. Just before Christmas, he was taken into the office, and was told that the company is making some cuts. They have taken him off his salary. He was being paid a base salary, and then earned commission on top of that. Now he is strictly on commission. He was driving a company truck that the company provided the gas for, that has also been taken away.
For the past 15+ years I have been a SAHM. We are a large family of 7. We've always been on a tight budget, and have gone without so that I could stay home. I've also homeschooled our children for several years. Last Thursday however, I found myself out applying for work!
Where does one apply for a job when you haven't worked for over 15 years? I applied for a position at The Dollar General. We live in a VERY small town, and this Dollar General is a brand new building, hasn't even opened yet. So I thought I'd start there, where I knew they were hiring. We'll see if I get the position. I'll know this week. $7/hr just doesn't seem worth it to leave my kids, depending on the hours I get, I'm looking at finding a sitter for my 2 year old, and possibly placing my kids back into the public school. Sacrifices I'm cringing at making...but that just might have to be made.
This blog is going to be my daily musings about tackling this huge mountain ahead of our family. Not really sure what it will come to, maybe no one will read it.. well maybe just one person will. (Hi Amy! :))
Well it's 7 a.m., and I need to get my kidlets up.
Why So Quiet?

ReplyDeleteI can tell you, I totally understand what you are going through and will pray for you and with you.
This is a very uncertain time for our family as well.
